Conductor: James Slater
James Slater
was educated at the Purcell School of Music, the Royal
College of Music and King's College, Cambridge, before
continuing his conducting studies with Neil Thomson.
Short-listed in 2008 for an Arts Council (Wales) Creative
Wales award, James' professional career has been supported
by Arts Council (Wales) and the Headley Trust. He was
artistic director of Brecknock Sinfonia and the Marches'
Chamber choir until 2009 and has recently been working with
the Southbank Sinfonia at Musicfest. He is also joint
artistic director and conductor of the newly formed
professional Mid Wales Chamber Orchestra (MWCO) and will be
working at the Royal Ballet in the spring. He is a
professional violinist, currently freelancing with Welsh
National Opera.
James lives in Brecon with his wife Catrin, a harpist,
and their two children.
